world class cycle coaching

howgoodcouldibe.com is all about removing the barriers which prevent you from finding out just how good you could be no matter how old you are or where you are starting out in duathlon running or cycling.
Recently retired Pro Cyclist and former British number one Leda Cox has joined howgoodcouldibe.com as its road cycling specialist. Providing detailed personalised monthly training plans and consultations. Leda is putting all her experience and training into helping both male and female road riders worldwide achieve their goals through carefully structured and personalised training programmes and a range of other services.

Once I have undertaken a thorough consultation process with my athletes I begin building a macro plan which takes long term goals and development into account before then drawing up the first monthly programme which prescribes clear and detailed instructions about when to train and exactly how to complete each session on a daily basis. I don't ever copy people's plans or use cut and pasting to prescribe training. I like to get to know my athletes as people as well as performers and with that in mind I am as used to planning peoples training around dog walking and picking the kids up as I am to planning in World Cups and selection races.
Athletes can leave the programme at any time and I encourage and active dialogue with my athletes who I work with as a mentor as much as a coach.

howgoodcouldibe.com's female pro system.
This is a special coaching and mentoring service specifically aimed at women and girls who have aspirations to race at the very highest level. As well as benefiting from the optimally tailored training programme a small number of female riders will be given access to the vast pool of experience which saw Leda ride the Giro D'Italia, Tour de France, Fleche Wallone, Tour of Flanders and a whole host of great races as far afield as the Tour of the Himalayas.
Female riders who either have aspirations to race in the elite ranks or who want to see if they are capable of racing at world cup level are encouraged to contact Leda for an informal chat. If you are thinking that maybe you're good enough but you're a bit shy then start a dialogue with her. It's the first step to finding out howgoodcouldibe.com

Some things you just can't teach by email and over the phone.
I've spent years racing in pelotons all over the world and the skills and tactics it takes to be confident and crafty on a bike have been such a vital part of my own racing. Many of my clients find that having just one to one session with me is the perfect way to either put in place new techniques or mental focuses for cornering, descending, bunch positioning, time trial pacing, climbing, sprinting and tactical approaches to name just a few areas.
I can tailor sessions specifically for any given client and the location can also be to their convenience. Group bookings are also welcome.

Benefit from working closely with my husband Jez who is a world class bike fitter. His service can't come recommended highly enough and not just by me! Have a read of his testimonies
howgoodcouldibe.com’s bike fitting service is now well known throughout the multisport world. Jez has fitted National and World champions, Pro cyclists, Paralympic medallists, complete beginners, children and probably most pleasingly of all, those who have been riding in the same inefficient position for years and hadn’t realised just how much improvement can be made by a world class bike fitter. It all takes place at my base in St Albans, Hertfordshire but he has performed bike fits elsewhere in the past. Just ask.
Suitable for;
Don’t have a bike yet? As an additional free service he can help you chose the right bike for you, find it at the best price through my knowledge of the market and then fit you on it. It can even be delivered straight to my door so that you don’t have to put it together!

His technique starts with a carefully focussed physiological assessment in order for me to build a flexibility and range of motion profile. This provides me with pointers which can often be corrected and then their impact on the riders ‘centre line equilibrium’ is applied to the actual bike fitting.
The fitting itself starts with optimal cleat and foot alignment and then works its’ way up through leg angles, knee/pedal alignment and uses power readings and cadence work to spot and eliminate inefficiencies and dead-spots in the pedal revolutions. Similar to my training plans, his system does not rely on formulae and computer software but instead years of experience and training. His fitting results speak for themselves and thankfully, so do his clients:

We've got contacts all over the world who are our eyes and ears on the ground as to the best roads, trails, hotels and cafe's so if you want the best in bespoke cycling abroad or within our fair shores then just ask. We're keen to hear your ideas....
Upcoming camps will be advertised here and via my twitter feed (see above right)
If you wish to register your interest in a training camp without obligation, just email me.

I qualified as a Sports massage therapist 2005 at
St.Marys University, Isleworth. More information about
my Sports Massage training can be seen
below.
Crucially, as well as being well qualified and experienced I understand the needs of motivated and focussed sports people. Most of my regular clients are rarely ever injured. This is of course because they have learnt that prevention is better than cure and regular massage coupled with strategic kinesio-taping goes a long way to keeping a number of my regular injury prone athletes training and competing without hindrance.

Before turning pro in 2003 Leda was employed by the US military as a physical trainer at their West London base. It was here that she gained her grounding in the key principles of disciplined physical preparation and this was something she employed to her own sporting career when she was head hunted and turned pro not long after she started cycling. From then on she spent most of her career abroad racing for Dutch, Belgian, French, Italian and American teams. In an 8 year which was cut short by a crash which forced her early retirement she went on to achieve:
Leda continues to ride her bike today, enjoying the miles she puts in with her clients and enjoying the reflected satisfaction as they meet their goals.
She lives in St Albans to the North West of London with her husband Jez who is the founder and coach for howgoodcouldibe.com's Duathlon wing.
